Finding a Connection with the Divine Feminine
Finding words, metaphors, and images to convey my experience of the Divine Feminine, of a Feminine Force resonating with my journey as a woman, has taken many years. One thing I know. There is no one way, one image, or one message. This relationship with the Divine Feminine is personal, understood and experienced through each woman’s own journey. The more women who make that journey, who give expression to their experience and live their truth as the embodiment of what they value, the more the collective message of the Divine Feminine will take shape.
I am sharing my experience with the Divine Feminine as one story, not the only story. It is a single perspective much like the view one sees looking through a kaleidoscope of an ever-changing infinity of beautiful patterns. It is my hope that by sharing the poems, prayers, and messages that emerge through my relationship with Divine Wisdom in this blog, I am contributing some of the colorful pieces whose reflections produce those beautiful and symmetrically perfect patterns of wholeness.
Divine Wisdom as a Feminine Force
In the Judeo-Christian Scriptures there is a Feminine Force active in the creation of the world, rejoicing in all that’s being created and delighting in us. Her name is Wisdom and we are Wisdom’s delight! (Proverbs 8:22-31)
This concept has been my source of connection with the Divine Feminine for 30 years. With a feminine image of the divine delighting in our world and us, I could feel the sacredness of my own delight in my world, in my children, in nature, and my engagement with all life. The joy in creativity and the outcome of my creative endeavors had divine resonance through my heart-felt connection with Divine Wisdom. Listening for Her insight and trusting Her message that emerged from within has proven to be good counsel.
Although there is no image for Divine Wisdom, in 1990 I had an encounter with a luminous figure who came to my aid when I was suffering a life-threatening breathing problem. Her appearance calmed me immediately and infused me with the sense that all was well and I would be fine. Once I was out of harm’s way, I sketched the image as best I could. From that point on, my path moved in the direction of exploring women’s spiritual experience and our relationship with the Divine Feminine.
Defining My Relationship with Divine Wisdom
Divine Wisdom permeates my thoughts, meditations, art journals, poetry, and prayers as a guiding force, a presence centered in who I am as a woman. She is my trusted counselor and guide. Eventually I worked with a graphic designer to create this more polished rendition of my sketch.
Stirs the desire in my seeking,
Sparking the wonder that leads me to look –
Around the bend… behind the door… in the locked box.
Divine Wisdom calls me to know my truth.
Invites me to stop, look, and listen.
One hand on my shoulder,
The other outstretched, pointing the way.
She shows me truth through the day’s events,
And through the drama in my dreams at night.
Divine Wisdom is always at my side
Mentoring my journey.
Rising from the soul of who I am,
Illuminates the beauty of my truth.
She reveals the rhythms and patterns of my experience
Unfolding through the cycles of my life.
Divine Wisdom is my Loving Counselor
And Compassionate Guide.
